A Fairy - anyone?

A chance to sing Iolanthe
Old St Paul’s Reduced Opera Company is a “shambolic ad-hoc collection of Gilbert & Sullivan-loving nutters whose mission is to have fun, raise money for charity, and maybe encourage people to try something they haven’t done before”.

Catherine Harkin writes: Hi folks! Thank you very much for the loan of Mike for OSPROC’s rip-roaring Mikado earlier this year. It was so much fun that we’re doing another one! We have a concert performance of Iolanthe on November 10th, and would welcome a few more peers and fairies – both can be of either sex!

In particular we are Desperately Seeking Strephon, and require a stunningly handsome bass who will not mind being fallen in love with by a cross-dressed Fairy Queen to be Pte Willis (own tattoos optional). We also need a conceited, pompous and not terribly bright tenor to be Lord Tolloller. As you know, such a creature would be very unusual, so we’d be prepared to accept a shy and modest one if necessary . . .

. . . so any frustrated fairies who would like to be peers for a change, or vice versa, or bored choristers who want to have a shot at being a dim lord or philosophical soldier . . .
If people are worried about rehearsals, they can be reassured that when we did The Mikado, the first time we had the full cast present at the same time was the night of the performance. I wouldn’t recommend that, as it’s bad for my nerves, but ’twas ever thus . . . However, it is nice to have at least met people a couple of times before you have to get married to them at the end . . . We’re not doing dialogue, and moves will be minimal. If people can be off-book, that’s great, but not to be stressed if they can’t; more important that they enjoy it. More peers and fairies would be welcome, so dust off those wings and flap over.

Next rehearsal October 14th at Old St Paul’s for everyone; chorus only on the 28th; everyone on November 4th; dress rehearsal either evening of the 9th or morning of the 10th. The receiving charity is a small trust working on sustainable building in Ghana, and I can pass details to anyone who’s interested. Please give me a ring and come along .”
